The Unwanteds: Island of Silence continues the adventures of Alex and his treacherous brother, Aaron. The magical world of Artime was discovered and fought by the evil society of Quill when Alex tried to contact Aaron. Now there is no boundary between the two and citizens from both societies pass into the other's world. It is peaceful for the most part, but Aaron, seeking revenge for his beloved High Priestess's death, vows to try and destroy Artime and overthrow the current High Priest. And that's not the only problem: Marcus Today, the keeper of Artime longs to go on vacation and leave young, fourteen-year-old Alex in charge! Plus there's the discussiong about the mysterious and silent strangers who show up with orange eyes... If you weren't hooked by the first Unwanteds book, you will be by the second!  San Diego Public Library Catalog

The Unwanteds... At first look the book showed no appeal for me, but on a second glance it was much better. Alex and Aaron are identical twin brothers. The only differece is that one is Wanted and the other is Unwanted for being creative. And in a dystopian society called Quill, the Unwanteds are killed. However, when they are supposed to be eliminated, a strange world opens up to them with music and laughter and hope. The Unwanteds discover that they can live peacefully in this world as long as they don't try to contact Quill who would try and fight them. But can Alex really not try and assure Aaron that he is in fact alive? Lisa McMann's Unwanteds is filled with love, deciet, war, and creativity, and is a must-read for children of all ages.  San Diego Public Library Catalog
